Why Play Here Instead of Online?

Arena and MTGO are great for practice, but in-store Magic offers something you can't get from a screen: a real community, real cards, and real moments. Here's what makes playing at Kennett Command Zone worth the trip.

Real community
Meet regulars, make friends, and share games with people who love the same format. In-person play builds connections that don't happen in a queue.
New-player friendly
Whether you're learning the stack or your first draft, our staff and regulars are here to help. Ask questions, borrow decks, and grow at your own pace.
Premier events
Friday Night Magic, Prereleases, Store Championships, and RCQs when applicable. Official events with sanctioned play and results that count.
Promo packs & prize support
Take home promos, participation packs, and prize support you can hold in your hand. Tangible rewards that make every event feel worth it.
In-person gameplay
Shuffle, read your opponent, and enjoy table talk. Paper Magic has a rhythm and social layer that digital can't replicate.
Welcoming environment
Inclusive, judge-supported play when it matters. We want everyone to feel safe and welcome—whether you're here to compete or just hang out.

Getting Started on Any Budget

You don't need a $500 deck to have a great time. Whether you're brand new or coming back after a break, there are plenty of ways to jump in without breaking the bank—and we're here to help you find the right one.

Commander preconstructed decks
Ready-to-play 100-card decks right out of the box. Pick one up, sleeve it, and join a pod. Great value and an easy way into our most popular format.
Starter kits
Two-player Learn-to-Play boxes and starter kits teach the basics with simple decks and a low price tag. Perfect for trying the game with a friend.
Learn-to-play events
New-player-friendly events focus on rules, pacing, and having fun. Ask at the counter or check our events page for dates—no experience required.
Free demo decks
Not sure yet? Borrow a demo deck at the shop and play a few games. Staff can walk you through the basics so you can decide if Magic is for you—no purchase needed.
Budget upgrade paths
Start with a precon or draft, then upgrade a few cards at a time. We carry singles and can suggest cheap improvements that make a real difference.

Build Your First Deck

Deckbuilding is part of the fun—and it's easier than it looks once you know a few basics. We're here to help you learn, not just sell you cards. Start with these ideas, then bring your list in and we'll help you tune it.

Deckbuilding basics
Focus on lands (enough to hit your drops), a reasonable curve (cheap and expensive spells mixed), and cards that work together. Start with a precon or a simple list—you can refine from there.
Sleeve and protect your cards
Sleeves keep your deck safe and easier to shuffle. We carry a range of sizes and can help you pick the right fit. Double-sleeving is optional but great for pricier decks.
Learn from YouTube
Channels like Tolarian Community College and The Command Zone cover rules, deckbuilding, and format guides in friendly, clear ways. Great for learning at your own pace.
Practice on MTG Arena
Free to play online. Use it to learn the rules, try different strategies, and get comfortable before bringing a deck to the shop. Then we'll help you translate that to paper.
Staff help at the shop
Bring your deck or your ideas. We can suggest cuts, swaps, and budget upgrades—or walk you through building from scratch. No pressure, no dumb questions. We're here to help you build something you'll enjoy playing.

Stuck on a list or want a second opinion? Ask us for help tuning your deck—we do it all the time.
